Coming Events Winter 2009/2010

Plans are well under way for this winter's fun and games.

Look for Michigan (midwest?) Hell Yes Sprint Series:

(more information about that event will follow in November 2009, but stay tuned, you won't want to miss this event)

Short Stik

So....we still don't know about having the Sprints in GR or the 31st. Personally, if it was me, I'd just say fuckit. But I know there's a bunch of you guys and girsl in GR that want the Sprints, so....we're hanging in there.

I'm willing to bet $20 that Founders founders on the whole thing. Let's see what happens tomorrow, eh?

Grand Rapids or Not?

Hell, we don't know. We've been told that we'll be setting up Sprints at The Midwest Mountain Bike Summit in Grand Rapids on May 31st....but we don't have 100% confirmation. Supposedly sponsored by Founders Brewery. Stay tuned if you live near GR and want to race.

How about Traverse City? Well, we know that we'll have Sprints as part of the 4th International Fixed Gear Symposium and they'll probably be concurrent with the Trackstand Contest, but we're slightly unsure of our venue...perhaps over by Right Brain Brewery in the Warehouse District. Stay tuned on that one too.

We're also closing in on a title sponsor for a "round the state" series of Hell Yes Sprints next winter - Ann Arbor, Grand Rapids, Lansing, Traverse City...and yes even Marquette. So...buckle up your sneakers and get ready for next winter.

weather, riding (or not riding)

It was cold again today here in TC, but I don't have to tell you that.

Hoping for the predicted 75F temps on Friday for the alley cat. We'llall be bitchin' about the heat.

Harry Manx last night

Surprised to see a "mostly older" audience at a local performance by Harry Manx, hmmm, $20 tix are cheap. Guess his misic is just "more mature."

Anyway, after playing Springsteen's "I'm On Fire" on his Diddly Box, Harry commented that at a recent concert he looked down at the front row and there was The Boss sitting there with his wife (Bruce's wife, not Harry's btw). Harry said he just about shit his pants. Talk about pressure. Said The Boss came back stage afterwards and said "I always learn something when I see you play."

No Tricks Alley Cat - Friday April 20 - 5:45pm

$5 entry all goes to the kitty, winner takes all. mo' prizes too.

blues, beer, bikes, and fuck I don't know

Too much beer over the weekend, and I realized I hadn't posted her in eons. Some boss I am, huh?

So here's what's up with Hell Yes Sprints. We're trying to figure out a way to make this thing work. We simply can't drive to Detroit with three of us in a rented van, be gone for 18 hours, miss two half days at work and still lose $300. Can't do it.

We WILL go almost anywhere and break even, just can't lose money. The Blind Pig really helped us out with $1 for every guy or gal the entered the room (and that wasn't a cover, that was just BP kickin it in. Very cool, and it helped. Didn't hel;p that our last gig there was during UM spring break. O'well, we'll learn about that shit.

Founders wanted us to come on Sunday afternoon to help boost Sunday's gross sales and put some $ into their staff's pockets but wouldn't split the gate, or let us have a cover charge. They basically wanted us for free. Sorry GR folks we just can't do that...so go get mgt at Founder's to uderstand we're not a charity and we'll be there next week!!

Right Brain in TC needs to get their entertainment license thing straightened out and we'll be back there soon, we hope.

I tried to re-schedule April 11th to Inside-Out Gallery and we were going to combine Hell Yes Sprints AND a Bicycle Fashion Show featuring clothes and bikes from all the area bike shops. Had the date schedules, had support from Northern Express mag, was gonna do a $5 cover charge as a benefit for TART, lots more goodies. But guess what? We couldn't get the (OTHER) local bike shops to agree to come and/or to return phone calls. Yes that includes Brickwheels, City Bike Shop, GT Cycle, and McLain Cycle. Either they didn't return my phone call, or they didn't have an money (was going to cost them only $100 each and we'd take care of all the details, etc), or they (City Bike Shop) "Didn't think it was in their own best interest." whatever that means.

So....local TC bike riders, just keep that shit in mind the next time you need a tube or a chain or want to spend $100 = $1000 in a bike shop or when you have to listen to them cry about internet sales. End of Rant.

Event order:

Starting at 7pm sharp.

All riders ride a qualifying heat, 3 rider groups are in the order of sign-up, individual placings in the qualifier doesn't matter, only your time matters.

Riders are grouped into the classes and preliminaries are seeded based on qualifying times: ie if there are 12 riders in a group there would be 4 heats with the first heat having riders who qualified 1, 5, 9, the second heat with riders 2,6,10, etc.

Winners advance to the semi-finals where the same seeding order is followed.

Winners from the semi-finals advance to the finals in each group.

First full trials of equip, timing, and software

Monday evening we did our first full trials with three bikes, the sensors connected, laptop and projector all cookin'.

Here's a photo of three bikes, we're using three roller rigs, but we've got four bikes....a 53, a 55, and two 57s (center to center) and all have 400mm seatposts so we'll be able to fit everyone except Leonard Zinn.

Special thanks to the following equipment sponsors....
* Alien track frames - finish by Powdercoat Studio
* Velocity wheels - DeepVs with Chozen hubs
* Pake cranksets, Izumi track chains, Soma saddles and cogs, Soma toeclips, and Pake straps.
* Continental UltraSport Hometrainer tires and tubes.
* Bars, stems, tape, pedals from the parts bin.

Thanks to Kreitler Rollers for their help / To Evar Farrar and the guys at Open Sprints / to Brandon Worden and Chris Oliver for getting Linux on our laptop, and making the software run.
See you at Right Brain Brewery on the 31st.
